Can financial health services help low-income residents address the root causes of financial insecurity and achieve sustainable homeownership?

The project with Come Dream. Come Build. (CDCB) increases access to financial education and homebuyer assistance programs for very low- and low-income residents in the Rio Grande Valley by partnering with local employers to create a direct pipeline of clients. The traditional counseling services offered by CDCB will be updated to focus on the financial health and increased financial capabilities of clients and enhanced by a smartphone app.

With a contract award from Fannie Mae, the CDCB team has been able to:

• Formalize agreements with two local and one regional employer.
• Finalize the metrics used to engage and guide clients to ultimately qualify for home financing.

By the end of the contract with Fannie Mae, CDCB expects to add more employers across a bigger geographic footprint, expand their remote counseling services to new employer-sourced clients, and promote a certain percentage of those clients to homebuyer ready status each year.
