William McClain

William McClain is an economist on the Foundational Research Team in Fannie Mae’s Economic and Strategic Research Group. His work focuses on natural disaster and other systemic risk, including their impacts on housing markets or use in risk modeling. He supports teams across the enterprise with his expertise in natural disaster risk, energy costs, house prices, and demographic and scenario modeling.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae in October 2021, William was an economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Industrial Prices and Price Indexes division. His duties included monthly index production for the Producer Price Index and industry research, primarily in regulated energy markets. While pursuing his Ph.D., William worked for Purdue University’s State Utility Forecasting Group, developing modeling for state energy forecasts under climate change.

William has a B.B.A. in accounting from Woodbury University, an M.Sc. in agricultural economics from Universität Hohenheim, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Purdue University.
