The Fannie Mae Mortgage Lender Sentiment Survey, which debuted in March 2014, is a quarterly industry attitudinal survey among senior executives, such as CEOs and CFOs, of Fannie Mae's lending institution partners. The survey is designed to provide insights into current lending activities and market expectations. Each quarter, the survey covers regular tracking questions such as consumer mortgage demand and lenders' credit standards and profit margin outlook, as well as topical questions that cover industry important and emerging topics. The Fannie Mae Monthly National Housing Survey polls homeowners and renters to assess their sentiment toward owning and renting a home, the current state of their household finances, views on the U.S. housing finance system, and overall confidence in the economy.
