David Benson is Fannie Mae's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for Fannie Mae’s financial management functions (including controllers, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, and asset/liability management), corporate strategy (including strategic planning and economic research), and managing relationships with external stakeholders (including government and regulatory entities, analysts, banks, and the fixed- income and mortgage industries). Mr. Benson is also responsible for the Enterprise Project Management Office, which oversees the company’s strategic projects, resource allocation, and IT infrastructure initiatives from an integrated business and financial perspective. Additionally, Mr. Benson serves as vice-chairman of the Management Committee and chairman of the Asset Liability Committee.
Most recently, Mr. Benson served as the Executive Vice President – Capital Markets, Securitization, and Corporate Strategy. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and Treasurer responsible for the company's debt issuance, liability management, and liquidity management activities. Prior to joining Fannie Mae in 2002, Mr. Benson was a managing director in the fixed-income division of Merrill Lynch & Co. During his 14 year tenure he held leadership positions in risk management, fixed-income and currency trading, debt syndication, and e-commerce based in New York and London.
Mr. Benson earned his M.B.A from Stanford Business School, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his B.S. in psychobiology, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
